Free SMS services/software

I have just found a free PC utility called GenieTexter that provides a long list of free SMS services, links you to the service sign up page and then lets you access those services from within the program itself once you've registered meaning there is no need to log in via the web site to send messages. It can be easily updated via scripts for new services and has an outbox and address book making it quite a nifty little utility.

It contains no spyware according to Spyware-Guide.com. Download it from here.

I wasn't too sure if this should be posted here or in the computing forum but as the program offers a comprehensive list of free SMS services I decided it would be ok here. Mods, please move the post if you disagree with this.

Yes. Install the program, go to Service Manager, then updates and you'll see plenty of international SMS services listed.

cant see any which do unlimited UK free texts though - or even whatever you want to use for say 50 texts a day, which is what I want for data purposes....
oh well, good idea though...

has anyone got this to work yet ? I've signed up for 'sendsmsnow' and SMSAC; using the GenieTexter GUI seems to login OK but then I get - error - try site manually - page not recognised

will have a play ...

Are you trying to send a very short test message? Some sites have a minimum message length, such as Orange, which then produces this error in the program.

Time to get out from under the rock...

You have to give your mobile number to register to some of these sites, has anyone received any unwanted adverts to their mobile after signing up?

I am worried because a friend of mine started to get random SMS charged at 50p a pop out of nowhere (she doesn't use GenieTexter).

A friend of mine had the same thing. She was getting texts adding upto about 5 quid per month and she didnt notice it for about 6 months because all her bills go to her house while she is in uni. She finally got it sorted last week.
